About Bortz Library: Home

Mission Statement

Bortz Library’s mission is to support Hampden-Sydney’s efforts “to form good men and good citizens in an atmosphere of sound learning” by providing students and faculty with quality information resources and services as efficiently as possible.

  • Support learning and teaching in the liberal arts environment by maintaining an appropriate collection of books, periodicals, and non-print materials along with the equipment and software necessary for their use.
  • Provide a facility appropriate for meeting the academic information and services needs of the College by making its resources available via the Internet at any hour and any place students and faculty may need them.
  • Offer resource sharing services supporting faculty and student research.
  • Promote information literacy as we seek to develop independent lifelong learners who can discover, critically evaluate, and employ evolving information resources through carefully planned group and individual bibliographic and technology instruction.
