Circulation Policy
 

Renewing Library Materials

Patrons may renew materials by bringing them to the Circulation Desk on the main floor of the library. Materials may also be renewed over the phone by calling (434) 223 - 7227 and reading the barcode number to the staff member on duty. 

Overdue Materials, Lost Items, and Fines:

Bortz Library does not charge fines for overdue materials. However, students and community patrons with overdue items are not allowed to check out additional items until the overdue materials are returned or renewed in person. Students with overdue items will be allowed to check out items on course reserve. 

Students who leave campus at the end of the year without returning their library materials will be billed for replacement costs. These charges may also be billed to student accounts. 

Patrons will be expected to pay replacement costs on all lost materials.

SALSA

SALSA, or Southside Area Libraries Sharing Access, is a local consortium consisting of our own Bortz Library, Longwood University's Greenwood Library, and Central Virginia Regional Library (Buckingham, Cumberland, and Farmville).

Patrons may place holds for books and other items from all member libraries and have them delivered to their nearest library.  For example, patrons may check out a book from any branch of CVRL and have it delivered to Bortz Library for pick-up.  Books are delivered and picked up by courier once a week - typically on Wednesdays.  Borrowing rules are different by patron type, so H-SC students/faculty/staff might have a different check-out period when borrowing a book from the public library or Longwood's library.  Please pay attention to due dates when picking up items, or check the due date on your library account online.
