Student Publications The Tiger |

The Hampden-Sydney Tiger is a student newspaper serving the community of Hampden-Sydney and operating independently of the College. The Tiger is printed, usually bi-monthly by the Farmville Herald and Farmville Printing. It records significant events, publishes items of interest, promotes improvement of the College, and welcomes the expression of responsible student opinion. The Tiger is editorially and financially independent, funded by advertising, subscriptions, and its endowment. It was originally founded on January 31, 1920 by J. B. Wall, class of 1919. Currently, The Tiger is not fully digitized but it is in the process of being digitized. To view the available digital versions, access the Library of Virginia (for 1920-1996) or the Internet Archive (for 2014-current). The College Archives and Special Collections does house physical copies of The Tiger in its entirety. | The Garnet |

Originally named the Hampden-Sidney Magazine, the Garnet began in 1859 as an opportunity for community members to demonstrate their literary abilities. Each year, a collection of poems, short stories, and essays would be published. Eventually, the Garnet evolved and began to showcase other artistic works such as photography and painting. The Garnet was published every year until 2019, with the last one being published in the fall of 2018, until it returned in the spring of 2024. Currently, the Garnet is not digitized but every published edition is available at Bortz Library. The links below will take you to the listings in the Library Catalog. | The Kaleidoscope |

The Kaleidoscope is a student-run yearbook that was first published in 1893 by Dandridge Spotswood, Class of 1893, as a permanent record of the life and history of this community. Aside from a few years when The Kaleidoscope was not published for a variety of reasons, it was published annually until 2010, with one final Kaleidoscope getting published in 2017. The Kaleidoscope was digitized in full and is available via The Internet Archive. If you are interested in viewing physical editions, please stop by the circulation desk on the 2nd floor of the library.

| The Journal of the Sciences |

Journal of the Sciences is an annual publication with the goal to provide a student-edited venue for the public presentation of student research performed at the College. Hampden-Sydney prides itself on providing opportunities for the students to train for careers as future scientists and future leaders and this Journal showcases a wide range of scientific activities ranging from Honors theses to research assignments from science classes.

The Poetry Review is published annually and has been a respected journal in the world of poetry for forty years. It is one of the longest continuously-run poetry journals in the United States and one of only a dozen or so established literary journals nationwide that is devoted solely to poetry. There has been Prose and Poetry from the Poetry Review featured in recent years on Poetry Daily, Verse Daily, and The Best American Poetry.
